Wike, Soludo, Oborevwori, others named in Tinubu’s 2027 campaign council

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has been named among prominent political figures in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, alongside governors, opposition-linked politicians and veteran party leaders.

Wike, a former Rivers State governor and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is listed as coordinator for the FCT and Rivers State in the revised campaign structure scheduled for inauguration tomorrow at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

His inclusion is noteworthy given his continued membership of the PDP and his publicly declared support for Tinubu’s re-election, highlighting the cross-party alliances emerging ahead of the 2027 general election.

The FCT minister recently declared himself the field commander for Tinubu’s re-election campaign in the territory, pledging to coordinate mobilisation efforts in both the FCT and Rivers State. He also disclosed plans to bring APC and PDP stakeholders together behind the President’s re-election bid.

The campaign council’s inauguration notice names Tinubu as chairman, Vice-President Kashim Shettima as Vice Chairman I and APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, as Vice Chairman II. Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq are listed as deputy vice chairmen.

Former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari is named Director-General of the council, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma will serve as secretary. Governors from different political backgrounds are on the list.

Several serving governors also feature prominently in the campaign structure, including Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Others are Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The inclusion of some governors elected on opposition platforms adds a significant political dimension to the list, although their appearance in the document does not, by itself, establish that they have formally joined the APC or endorsed Tinubu’s re-election.

The notice also lists Wike as coordinator for Rivers State, even as Fubara is named among the state coordinators. It does not explain how the respective responsibilities of the two figures would be coordinated.

Beyond the state-level appointments, the council assigns key responsibilities to several national political figures. Sen Abdulaziz Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State, will serve as Director-General, while presidential aide on political matters, Alhaji Ibrahim Kabir Masari, is named Deputy Director-General for Logistics and Operations.

Former Katsina Governor and Speaker House of Representatives, Aminu Bello Masari, will oversee parliamentary mobilisation, while Senator Adams Oshiomhole and former Edo State governor is listed among the deputy directors-general with responsibilities in the campaign structure.

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, former Yobe State governor Mai Mala Buni, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume are also among the prominent figures assigned roles.

James Abiodun Faleke, a member of the House of Representatives, is named Deputy Director-General for Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring. The secretariat will be led by Uzodimma, with APC National Secretary Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru as deputy secretary and Hadiza Bala Usman as assistant secretary.

The advisory team on the campaign council features several experienced politicians, including former Osun State governor Bisi Akande, former Ogun State governor Segun Osoba, former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, former National Chairman of the APC and Nasarawa state governor, Abdullahi Adamu and former Ogun State governor Ibikunle Amosun.

Other advisers named include Senator Rufai Sani Hanga, Senator Iyiola Omisore, former Gombe State governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo and Finance Minister Wale Edun. Obafemi George is listed as media adviser.

The campaign structure also provides for zonal coordinators across the six geopolitical zones, supported by state coordinators in the 36 states and the FCT. The arrangements are intended to establish a nationwide structure for campaign coordination, political mobilisation and election planning ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
