Yusuf reads riot act to Kano officials post-defection

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has vowed to “boot out” from his cabinet any commissioner who fails to abide by the dictates and principles of his administration following the current political realignment.

Meanwhile, the deputy governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, was conspicuously absent from the state executive council meeting.

Although Gwarzo has two weeks to clear his name before the House of Assembly on the impeachment notice served him amid a move to halt his removal from office, it was not certain if the absence had any connection with the impeachment saga.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Investment, Shehu Wada Sagagi, was also absent from the meeting.

Governor Yusuf sounded the warning during the 38th Executive Council Meeting yesterday, reminding council members whose loyalty is still divided to have a rethink, stressing that “it is not going to be business as usual.”

He informed the council of his acceptance of the resignation of five commissioners who voluntarily parted ways with his administration. He appealed to other commissioners who have chosen to remain with the All Progressives Congress (APC) government to do so with sincerity of purpose.

The governor specifically warned that “the era of disloyalty, revealing official information, and coming in between one another is over,” adding that cabinet members should either align with the principles and procedures of the government or “be booted out.”

The governor also took time to emphasise the reasons behind his decision to defect to the ruling APC, stating that he carried out wide consultations before effecting the political realignment.

He cited the support he received from all 44 council chairmen, 24 out of the 26 members of the State House of Assembly, as well as critical stakeholders who dumped the opposition New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), insisting that the decision was taken in the best interest of Kano State.
