The opposition Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) witnessed huge shock on Saturday with over 135,000 members officially decamped to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano.
Top among the defectors include closed political allies of Presidential running mate of NDC, and leader of Kwankwasiyya Movement Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Those who dumped the Kwankwasiyya include Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial district, Rufai Sani Hanga; former Senator representing Kano South, Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya; and former Senator representing Kano South Mas’ud Eljibrin Doguwa.
Others are former House of Representatives member, representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency Hon. Ali Datti Yako; Former Speaker Kano state house of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Isyaku Ali Danja; former deputy Gubernatorial candidate Hon. Yusuf Bello Danbatta; former Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan Sen. Baraka Sani, among others.
Receiving the former Kwankwasiyya loyalists at a mega rally in Kano, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf declared that the mass defection from the opposition party signal the end of Kwankwasiyya in Kano.
Gov. Yusuf reminded that Kano has decided to return President Bola Ahmad Tinubu to Aso Rock in 2027 with massive mobilization across the 44 local government areas of the state.
Justifying the need for Kano to galvanize support for Tinubu’s second term in office, Governor Yusuf explained that the renewed hope agenda of the President has brought unprecedented developments to the entire Country.
The Governor applauded the President for appointing former Zamfara State Governor and Senator Abdulaziz Yari as Director General of his campaign council just as he assured block votes for the president in Kano.
“Let me assure you that Kano is ready to support the reelection of President Tinubu. Apart from Mr. President, we have decided in Kano to mobilize massive support for all APC candidates in 2027.
“Tinubu has deployed all necessary efforts to build viral development across the country and that is the very reason we are mobilizing our people to turn out in mass to vote for President Tinubu in 2027.
” In fact the presence of the large crowd has further authenticate Kano support for Tinubu. We are ready to campaign house to house to return Tinubu in Kano because he’s the only genuine candidate that holds the trust of the people of Kano in high esteem”. Gov. Yusuf assured.
Former National Chairman of APC, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje who praised the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President asserted that Tinubu’s policies have injected uncommon reform to entire sectors of the economy.
According to Ganduj, “Tinubu is a progressive leader who is building a sustainable development in the country. We are ready and committed to sustain the President renewed hope agenda, aimed to drive more reforms in the nation.
“The reforms have successfully accelerated development across the country and assisted state and local governments to build development. The renewed hope agenda has careful tailored to rid Nigeria out of poverty. We are ready to continue given support to the government to achieve success.
The Mass rally also witnessed the inauguration of Tinubu Support Group (TSG) in the North West to galvanize support for Tinubu’s second term bid in the region.
The political rally attracted APC bigwigs including the National Chairman of the party Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Deputy President of Senate, Barau Jibrin; Former Kano state Governor Mal. Ibrahim Shekarau, among others.
