Engineers to host students’ quiz competition
The programme, which is being organised by NSChE Lagos/Ogun Chapters, is part of efforts to get the students to develop a deeper knowledge of the profession and contribute meaningfully to the industrial development of Nigeria.
Speaking on the programme, which would host four higher schools that include; University of Lagos (UNILAG), the Lagos State University (LASU), Covenant University and the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), a member of the planning committee, Mrs. Edith Alagbe disclosed that the goal is to make the students to be versatile, advance their knowledge of the field and provide a platform for participants to exchange ideas.
She said: “From the programme, we will be able to know how the students have acquired the needed knowledge and how to update their curriculum.
This is the maiden edition and it is a requirement from the Nigerian Society of Engineering for its different divisions to hold yearly quiz and enrich the knowledge of students in higher schools that offer chemical engineering”.
According to Alagbe who is also the secretary of the committee for the competition, the society will in future, make the event a national programme across universities and polytechnics in the country.
She said the schools were selected based on those that offer chemical engineering as a subject.
“We planned to make the event a nationwide affair but we are using the maiden edition to kick-start it among institutions in Lagos.
Probably from next year we would arrange a wider participation from other institutions form other states like making it a regional or zonal affair before a final competition will hold.
We selected the schools from Lagos State because the competition is organised by the Lagos/Ogun Chapter of Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers”, she explained.
