It was an evening of a mix of music, cocktails and movie screening as Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) winner, Asurf Oluseyi, premiered his short film titled, Hell or High Water at the Genesis Deluxe Cinema, The Palms, Lekki, Lagos.

The film tells the story of a young pastor loved and adored by the people around him. Things change for him when he has to confront a hidden truth about himself — a truth that could make or break him psychologically. But, whatever decision he makes, he is still going to crash and burn, for life as he once knew it would never be the same again.

Written by Habeeb Lawal, and produced by Asurf Oluseyi, the film starred 2016 AMVCA best actor, Daniel K. Daniel, Enyinna Nwigwe, Ashionye M. Racca, Tunbosun Aiyedehin, Adedayo Davies and Chika Okeke. The story explores the reality of sexuality amidst spirituality, exorcism, blackmail, and family life. The film also challenged stereotypical narratives about sexuality and spirituality.

Speaking after the premiere, Asurf explained that idea behind the film production is to open a discourse on the issue of sexuality amidst spirituality. Asurf’s winning entry at the AMVCA was A Day With Death, about a 65-year-old woman who convinces the Grim Reaper (a tall young lady) to accompany her for a day as she ties up loose ends.

Guest at the exclusive premiere includes Wole Ojo, Enyinna Nwigwe, Tope Oshin, Oscar Oyinsan, Daniel K Daniel, Denrele Edun, Bolanle Olukanni, Ashionye Raccah, Shade Ladipo, and Ifeanyi Dike among others.
