Two Nigerian films, The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives, and Old Scores: The Black Book 2, will be represented at TIFF 2026, marking another milestone in the growing international profile of Nigerian cinema.

Nigerian-based film producer, Mimi Bartels, has marked a significant international milestone, with two productions she helped produce represented in Toronto during the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and TIFF: The Market.

Bartels is one of the producers of The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives, which screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, and Old Scores: The Black Book 2, which was presented at TIFF: The Market 2026 under the Global Africa Hub powered by CANEX.

The two projects represent different sides of Bartels’ producing experience and mark another significant moment in a career spanning more than 16 years across production, distribution and development.

As a producer, Bartels has been involved in the development, financing and co-production of more than 30 films, while her work in distribution has contributed to the release of more than 110 films.

She previously served as General Manager of FilmOne Studios and is a co-founder and Director of Creative & Productions at Anakle Films.

Her producing credits include projects that have earned significant industry recognition, with her productions receiving more than 30 AMVCA nominations and two wins.

She was also named Nigeria’s highest-grossing producer in 2021 and has served as a juror for both the International Emmy Awards and the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
