The passing of Dr. Geoffrey Chukunwiken Ohen Jr., fondly known as Dr. Geoff Ohen, on September 22, 2026, marked the end of a remarkable life distinguished by faith, intellectual excellence, professional accomplishment, generosity and selfless service to humanity.
His departure was sudden, and the grief occasioned by his passing has been profound. For his beloved wife and children, the loss is deeply personal and immeasurable. For his extended family, friends, professional associates, fellow alumni, the Church, and the many communities he served, it is the loss of an exceptional man whose influence reached far beyond his immediate circle.
The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Asaba, Rt. Rev. Kingsley Obuh, aptly captured the essence of his life: Dr. Ohen was a man whose greatest triumph was “the quiet, consistent witness of a life fully offered to God and to the good of others.”
Born on January 20, 1957, Dr Geoffrey Chukunwiken Ohen, Jr. was a proud son of Owa community in Delta State, Nigeria.
His major educational journey began at the historic and prestigious Anglican Grammar School, Ubulu-Uku, Delta State. The institution played a formative role in shaping his character, values, and outlook on life. Here, the principles of discipline, scholarship, service, and communal responsibility took root.
His lifelong attachment to Anglican Grammar School, Ubulu-Uku, became particularly significant. Decades after leaving its classrooms, he would return, not merely as an alumnus reminiscing, but as a leader determined to improve his alma mater.
He also attended Dennis Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha, another respected institution with a proud tradition of academic excellence and character formation.
His academic journey eventually led him to the University of Benin Medical School, where he pursued his calling to medicine and earned the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree.
His professional life was characterised by vision, enterprise, strategic thinking, and a commitment to building institutions that could endure. Through Geoff Ohen Limited, incorporated in September 1989, he established a principal investment vehicle for strategic equity participation, corporate advisory services, and property development.
As Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Consolidated Resources Limited, he developed the company into a technical supply-chain and procurement partner serving multinational energy operators in the Niger Delta and the Gulf of Guinea.
He served as Chairman of Networth Group and held board chairmanships at Piccadilly Insurance Limited, New Patriot Building Society Limited, and Owa Oil and Gas Limited. He also served as a director of Daily Times of Nigeria Plc.
In healthcare, his leadership at Ekocorp Plc, the parent company associated with Eko Hospital, was particularly significant. As controlling shareholder and chairman, he championed stronger clinical standards, diagnostic modernisation, and financial discipline.
In July 2026, just before his passing, he was appointed a Non-Executive Director of Royal Exchange Plc, a further recognition of his experience and standing in corporate governance.
As Board Chair and President of OSNON Academy, he contributed to strategic expansion, faculty development, and the pursuit of academic excellence.
At St. Saviour’s School, Ikoyi, he served on the Board of Trustees and chaired the Education Committee, contributing to institutional governance and the maintenance of academic standards.
At the centre of Ohen’s life was his Christian faith, deeply rooted in the Anglican tradition. An active worshipper at Our Saviour’s Church, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, he maintained a life of worship and devotion while sustaining his connection with the Anglican Diocese of Ika in Delta State.
Behind the distinguished professional and public figure was a man whose most intimate and cherished responsibilities were found within his family.
Ohen was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Barr. (Mrs.) Ogugua “OG” Ohen, his lifelong companion and confidante.
“A remarkable man, dependable, loving and caring. You were the centre of my world … a wonderful husband from beginning to the end,” she said.
He was equally devoted to his children, Geoffrey Ohen III, Carmen Ohen, and Frederick Ohen. He took pride in their development and sought to guide them through the values he held dear.
He also cherished his granddaughter, Alaïa Ohen-Kazeem, whose presence represented the continuity of family, love, and hope across generations.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Modern Business Machines Limited, Mr Sam Ifeozo, expressed profound pain at the loss of his amiable and successful schoolmate.
Remembering him as “Jeff,” he described him as an exceptionally generous person who contributed and donated substantially to the development of their alma mater.
The immediate past President of the AGSUOBA Lagos Chapter, Mr. Okey Odibeli, similarly expressed shock and grief at the sudden passing. He described Ohen as a gentleman of high repute, a philanthropist, and the embodiment of the school’s motto, Non Sibi Sed Aliis.
The current President of AGSUOBA Lagos, Ben Omife’s recollection of Ohen’s emergence as President General adds another dimension to these testimonies. His account shows how reputation, generosity, dignity, and an established record of service had already earned him the trust of his peers before he assumed the office.
Another alumnus, Joseph Oba, in his tribute, titled ‘And Did the Curtain Fall?’ says, “Senior Geoff Ohen remains a symbol of the AGSUOBA undying spirit and the tireless never-say-die passion of our great school.
His family will miss a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. His schoolmates will miss an exemplary leader and generous benefactor. His professional colleagues will miss a seasoned corporate mind. The Church and wider community will miss a committed servant of God and humanity.
And may his family find comfort in the assurance that a life devoted to love and service is never measured by its final day alone, but by the enduring good it leaves in the world.
