With the high electricity tariff alongside subsidy removal, it becomes tougher to run the home; this is why these desperate times call for desperate measures, such that compel you to pay optimum attention to overall household consumption including electricity appliances especially those that consume more power.

Energy-efficient appliances are your best bet as they are not only eco-friendly but consume less energy. Although these appliances are newer modern from the old ones and may cost you more to purchase but would help you use less energy in your home, thereby reducing the amount of electricity unit you consume.

However, while energy-efficient is the way to go, it is also imperative for you to constantly have a presence of mind to be cautious of your power consumptions through the following guidelines:

• Switch off any appliance that you do not need at every moment. For instance, there is no reason to turn on the television set if nobody is watching despite being energy saving. There is no reason to leave a frozen deep-freezer on non-stop if you’re not running a frozen business. There is no reason to leave the Air Conditioner in the rooms that are nonfunctional on, etc.

• Pay attention to appliances that consume more power and if they are not a necessity to use, keep them aside till when you need to use them.

• Give a general orientation on power consumption management to every member of the family, so, everyone is aware of the necessity to keep the home running effectively despite the high cost of living in the country.
