DJ Spinall signs major international deal with Atlantic Records UK



Frontline and multiple awards winning disc jockey, Sodamola Oluseye Desmond well known as DJ Spinall has signed a deal with UK music outfit, Atlantic Records.

Spinall made the deal known via a post shared on his Instagram Page on Tuesday, September 11, where the DJ also known as ‘The Cap’ (The Crazy Azz Party) shared videos of him signing a contract as well as pictures at the label’s headquarters.

The post had the caption, ‘’God is great!!! Another great step forward! Thank you Atlantic Records UK for sharing the vision and shout out my team for the great work!! Today is a good day.’’


While details of the deal are yet to be made clear, Spinall is excited about the deal. Outside being a prominent disc jockey that has worked with the likes of Wizkid, he also has a number of hit songs to his name, which include Baba featuring Kizz Daniel and Nowo with Wizkid.

He has three albums to his name, which were released in the last three years with his debut being My Story (2015), Ten (2016) and Dreams (2017).

He is the first Nigerian DJ to be endorsed by any brand in Africa and the first African DJ to tour in the United States.

He is also the first African DJ to perform at the SXSW Festival in the United States.

The Lagos brought up began had while as a student of Lagos State Model College, Meiran, discovered his passion for disc jockeying, and started calling himself Spinall in 2003 – meaning a DJ who plays all kinds of music.

His desire to entertain and see people going from being sober to being alive spur him to improve and upgrade himself by taking DJ lessons, online tutorials and even rehearsals both at home and abroad.

The Olabisi Onabanjo University Electrical/Electronics graduate attended DJ Slim’s Academy for DJs at Ojokoro, a suburb in Lagos, after his secondary education.


DJs Jimmy Jatt and Hotega also schooled him art of the DJing.

In 2006, he took his first step to being a DJ as a profession, and 2013, he got signed to Mavin Records, which he is no longer under.

Asked how he came about signature ‘cap’, Spinall said: “I love fashion and it helped me distinguish myself and at the same time remind the youth of our culture.

The reason for my cap is that I found out that a lot of Africans are not proud of whom they are and it’s sad.

“A lot of our native clothes are not complete without ‘the cap’.

The whole idea behind ‘the C.A.P’ actually is Crazy Azz Party – that is what I give you.


So, I got beautiful African made material from different cultures in Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya, and Angola just to showcase our cultural power and prowess,” he added.

Not restricted to any specific genre, Spinall, just as the name implies signifies a disc jockey that plays all kinds of genre of music.

His style of play has been tagged by many as fearless as a result of his ability to bring all kinds of music in one playlist, hence differentiated him from the lots and won him several awards.

“I play everything from Bob Marley to Damian Marley, 2face Idibia, Tekno, hip-hop. The name DJ Spinall connotes Spin…All.”

As a professional DJ, Spinall in 2015 signed a major deal with Smirnoff Ice drink and the contract was renewed in 2016. 

On March 20, this year, he alongside DJs Cuppy, Xclusive and Obi signed a deal with leading beverage brand Pepsi.
