To honour the heroes of the #EndSARs protests, especially those that were felled by unknown gun-totting soldiers at Lekki tollgate, Lagos, on October 20, 2020, Afro-soul and Afro-pop musician, Kingsheba, has released a single.

The song, ‘Once Upon A Time In Lagos’, which was released to public music platforms on Thursday, October 20, 2022, chronicled the Lekki tollgate masacre and events around it.

Born Stanley Ikechukwu Njoku from Enyiogugu, Aboh Mbaise, Imo State, the artiste, who reportedly started his music life at age seven, is still an independent artiste without a record label and a management company.

Before his sojourn into the Nigerian music scene, the Kings College, Lagos, old student had bagged a Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.

Mentored by legendary music producer, Cobhams Asuquo, this up-and-coming music talent told The Guardian that he chipped off his song-writing skills from his grandfather.

His words: “My music journey started at the age of seven when I wrote my first song. Then I eventually walked into the studios of legendary producer, Cobhams Asuquo, who mentored me in music craftmanship.

“Thereafter, I co-wrote and released songs with Tiwa Savage, Bez Idakula, IBK Spaceship Boi and Isaac Geralds under the pseudonym ‘Stan Iyke’.”

Kingsheba is an artiste with a unique voice texture. He believes in professionalism and artistry, originality and uniqueness.

“But then, there has to be a blend of originality and commerciality,” he added.

With Tiwa Savage, he did ‘Darlin’; did ‘Sticks and Stones’ with Bez and IBK; and ‘Fall In Love’ with Isaac Geralds.
