Popular actor and filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan shut down Nollywood on Thursday, as all roads led to the off Allen location of KAP Hub for the shindig announcing the launch of his new movie Swallow, the Kunle Afolayan Production hub (KAP Hub) and his birthday anniversary.
Swallow, the film adaptation of Sefi Atta’s book, which is set in 1980s Lagos, sees Afolayan continuing his cinematic exploration of bygone eras. The riveting drama-thriller weaves a compelling tale around drug trafficking and workplace sexual harassment and how these social issues are exacerbated by poverty.
To pen the screenplay for Swallow, Afolayan chose to work with the book’s author, Sefi Atta. Swallow is the first film from Kunle Afolayan’s Netflix multi-title deal and it premiered globally and exclusively to Netflix on October 1. But before the 2pm start of the Thursday shindig, the award winning movie producer took to his social media handle to celebrate himself and announce his new projects, a movie and a hub thus:
“Adekunle Ayodeji Akande Omo Afolayan. I thank you Lord for everything. My birthday gift to myself is the birth of @kap_hub and SWALLOW the movie. Official opening is today (Thursday) and Swallow launches on Netflix tomorrow (October 1). Thank you to all you guys for being part of my life and my story.” The shindig attracted a quality crowd of movie practitioners, government officials, bankers and business executives.
