After weeks of auditions across West Africa, in search of the next set of music diamonds in the rough that will be polished for stardom, the MTN Project Fame Season 9 Academy recently opened its doors to receive the 14 contestants for the new season.

With the contestants fully settled into their new environment, the Academy and of course with one another, it will be battle of the best vocalists and entertainer amongst the 14 musical prodigies have made it into the Academy of this year’s edition of West Africa’s biggest musical talent show, at a well attended opening gala that held last Saturday evening in Lagos.

The 14 finalists, Oladapo Arogundade, Eli Letsa, Elizabeth Emoruwa, Favour Koroma, Gabriel Ankrah, Kitay Okotete and Mirabel Ayavoro. Others are Okiemute Ighorodje, Oluchi Obasi, Pere Atie, Solomon Williams, Steve Adebayo, Winner Egbo and Yusuph Kuforiji, were selected after a rigorous but exciting display of talents, which lasted for two hours at the star-studded event that held at the Ultima Studios, Lekki, Lagos.

The budding acts, who have already began their quest for fame with guidance from the show’s faculty that comprises of voice coach, Ms. Ige; music director, Ben Ogbeiwi and principal, Joke Silvia, will be in the academy for the next 90 days.

Winner of this year’s edition (Season 9) will join the train of successful musical might from the passionately followed show like Iyanya, Praiz, Chidinma, Immaculate and more recently, Jeff Akoh, winner of the 8th edition.

The winner will walk away with five million naira grand prize, brand new SUV and a recording deal worth millions of naira. The first runner-up will claim three million naira and a saloon car, the second runner-up will get two million naira and brand new saloon car, while the third runner-up will be rewarded with two million naira.

A peep into the house showed that performances are beginning to take good shape, and it will be a fun weekend for the large following audience with today’s episode, as the contestants had a comprehensive session with Ms. Ige, each rehearsing their songs.

The contestants today will mark their first opportunity to have a real taste of what stage performance is like, as they will be singing not to just to impress the judges, but to also entertain the viewers, and to win as many fans as possible over.

In order to achieve their goals, the contestants must not rely on vocal abilities alone but good performance, which will be a perfect combination of suave stage presence and a good voice. This, the Academy choreographer Ms. Lovette demonstrated this to them with ample tips.
