Popular Instagram Comedian and Skit Maker, Joshua Sunday, professionally known as De General, has defended the massive wealth amassed by his counterparts, noting that the business of online comedy is more lucrative than it seems.

“I don’t blame people out there who think that most skit makers also make money through illegal means; I had the same mindset when I was still broke. I used to see my senior colleagues with cars and I used to think, ‘Is it not the same thing I’m doing with my phone? It was not until God ‘blew my whistle’ that I realised that one can make a lot of money from just making skits. Social media platforms such as Facebook and YouTube pay creators from Nigeria,” he said, in a chat with Weekend Beats.

The comedian also narrated how he plans to create a niche for himself in the movie industry from skit-making to action movies.
“I do stunt videos, the whole goal is not comedy, I am outspoken and naturally I am funny and whenever I talk in class people laugh. My mentor is Jackie Chan because he is a comedian and also does comic fights and puts it into action.

“The whole idea was to bring action into the movie. I wanted to be acting in big-screen movies but the time for auditions and people to notice me so I had to create that platform for myself so I used comedy as a way to get into the industry and I am working to switch to a full-time movie. Comedy was a stepping-stone. I love action and stunt a lot and Nollywood movies do not do that, they do more humour and action is quite different and that’s my own part.”

He further noted that his fans should anticipate his new projects coming early next year as he has commenced the pre-production stage already.
