Following the unfortunate demise of the veteran Ghanaian disc jockey and music industry leader, Rab Bakari, the All-Africa Music Awards has expressed its grief over the loss of Bakari who was a former juror with the platform.

According to a statement by the continental music body, the late hip-life pioneer died during the Asa Baako Festival, earlier in the month, as he was celebrating his country’s independence at the Busua Beach, in Ghana, where he drowned.

Rab Bakari was a juror at AFRIMA for five years, between 2013 and 2017, where he was in charge of entries from the Diaspora America.

“It brings us great sadness, as we at All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) commiserate with the family of the late veteran Ghanaian-American disc jockey, Rab Bakari, aka DJ Rab, whose artistry shone so brightly that it illuminated the entire African country.

“The entire community at AFRIMA is deeply pained by his unfortunate demise, and will forever cherish his stellar work with our community which he impacted over the years, with his stellar work ethic and ingenious ideas to our activities and panels. DJ Rab was a torch blazing across the continent, spotlighting its potential especially across the cultural and creative sector,” the statement read.
