Bisola Aiyeola, Liz Benson, others in Remi X Nneoma

Five 2 Media Entertainment has unveiled a new feature film, Remi X Nneoma, inspired by the biblical tale of Ruth and Naomi, reimagined through the lens of contemporary Nigerian womanhood. The film features screen icons such as Bisola Aiyeola and Liz Benson Ameye, and explores themes of love, loss, resilience, and generational connection.

Spearheaded by executive producer, Solate Ovundah-Akarolo, whose previous film, Xtra Mile, earned accolades at the Toronto Nollywood International Film Festival and produced by award-winning actress Bikiya Graham-Douglas, Remi X Nneoma marks a bold return for Five 2 Media.

Directed by Lyndsey Efejuku and featuring music supervision by Kalinè (Breath of Life, After 30), the film distinguishes itself with an all-female leadership team, a rare and impactful feat in African cinema. Writers Priye Diri and Adelarin Awotedu lend their voice to the project, weaving a narrative that is both culturally grounded and universally human.

The story centers on Nneoma and her daughter-in-law Remi, portrayed by Liz Benson Ameye and Bisola Aiyeola respectively, who remain together in the town of Ikwerre following a shared loss. As they confront the weight of grief and societal judgment, the women forge a bond that offers strength, healing, and a path to renewal. Amid their journey, Remi unexpectedly discovers love, challenging norms and reshaping her future.

Reflecting on her role, Aiyeola said, “Remi is every woman who’s ever had to rebuild her life from the ruins. Her strength is in her softness, her silence, her steady rise. Playing her was a journey I’ll never forget.”

Director Efejuku described the film as a story of reinvention and resilience, emphasising its intimate portrayal of everyday revolutions in women’s lives.

The film’s cast also includes Uche Montana, Ifeanyi Kalu, Eucharia Anunobi, Martha Ehinome, Buchi Franklin, Kunle Coker, Kelechi Udegbe and Tina Mba.

Graham-Douglas emphasised the film’s thematic depth: “This film challenges the familiar. It celebrates the beauty and agency of women, and the legacy of love passed from one generation to the next,” she said.

Executive Producer, Ovundah-Akarolo, buttressed this saying, “though rooted in Nigerian culture, the story of Remi X Nneoma is universally human. It’s about the courage to begin again, the grace to love deeply, and the resilience that defines womanhood around the world.”

He noted that with its lush cinematography, nuanced performances, and emotionally rich narrative, the film is poised to make a lasting impact. Following its release in Nigeria, the film is slated for international screenings, aiming to reach audiences across continents with its heartfelt message.
