THE Mavin All Stars received a knock from fans for their performance at the recent Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards 2015 held at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos. The group’s performance of their street hit track, Dorobucci, fell short of expectation and was regarded as a flop.
Rather than perform live, they preferred to mime with a playback CD, like most acts did during the award ceremony. This has been a common trend among Nigerian artistes, as they find it difficult to perform live on stage, which music buffs say is bad to the industry as it does not show the in-depth quality of our stars.
Though, some members of the group were conspicuously absent at the event, as they had engagements outside the country. While Surulere singer, Dr. Sid, is still in the UK attending a film school, label mate and queen of the crew, Tiwa Savage, had a show in Uganda.
Explaining reason for the less than desirable performance by the group, Reekado Banks, who was at Pulse studio on Wednesday, March 11, apologised to the crew’s fans, saying group didn’t had time to rehearse.
“The only time we got to put something together was that day. At the sound check, it was just me, Di’ja and Korede that were available. D’Prince travelled and was coming back that day. Jazzy was not available too.”
The Chop Am crooner, who recently dropped his new hit single, Katapot assured that subsequent performances by the crew would be top notch.
