After many months of tension, the leadership of Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has finally cleared the air on crisis rocking the association.
According to a True Certified Copy (CTC) of the Police Investigation Report, the National President, Mr. Pretty Okafor, has been exonerated of all allegations, including financial misconduct, forgery, and breach of PMAN’s Constitution.
Addressing journalists at a press conference on Wednesday, June 11, at the PMAN National Secretariat (Music House) in Lekki, Lagos, Okafor, stated that the NEC’s swift and constitutional response restored order, reversed the illegal actions, and suspended or dismissed those involved. He emphasised that his accusers’ hands are “dirty and stained with lies, manipulation, impersonation, and criminal deceit.
“Without just cause, and while I was in Spain on PMAN duty, certain members of the then National Working Committee (NWC), in flagrant violation of our constitution, initiated a campaign of calumny against me.
“They issued me a query and purportedly suspended me without following due process. They ignored Article 13(C)(i)–(iv), which clearly outlines that only the National Executive Council (NEC), through a duly appointed National Disciplinary Committee, can take such action after a fair hearing,” Okafor said.
“This constitutional safeguard was thrown to the wind. Instead, they proceeded on their unlawful path — issuing an indefinite suspension that violates Article 18(B) of our Constitution and publicly pronouncing me guilty of unfounded criminal accusations.
“What these individuals did not anticipate was the swift and constitutional response of the National Executive Council (NEC), which immediately restored order, reversed their illegal actions, and suspended or dismissed those involved in this treasonous act,” he added.
The police investigation uncovered abuse of court processes, including forgery of a Post No Debit (PND) order against Okafor’s personal bank accounts.
The investigation led to the dismissal of Hemmed Alfa, a court clerk with the Niger State Judicial Service Commission, and the police are currently investigating Inspector Caleb Samuel of the Force Investigation Department (FID).
The PMAN president explained that despite being suspended and dismissed, these same individuals twice broke into the PMAN secretariat on March 1 and 3, 2025, teaming up with some individuals to continue parading themselves fraudulently as the leadership of PMAN.
Okafor stated that the brazen illegality has been reported to the IGP Monitoring Unit, and arrests have already been made. He alleged that the real motive behind the coup was asset takeover, driven by greed, not selfless service.
He highlighted PMAN’s achievements under his leadership, including acquiring a national secretariat, investing in state-of-the-art radio station equipment, and initiating the Abuja Monaco Project.
Okafor assured that PMAN would pursue all legal avenues to bring impostors, saboteurs, and sponsors of the evil agenda to justice. He added that the NEC has resolved to establish an Asset Management Company to safeguard PMAN’s properties and investments, ensuring that no person or group can fraudulently or violently appropriate what belongs to the union and its members.
