Six years after his Grammy nominated album, Black Times, afrobeat virtuoso, Seun Kuti comes through with his much awaited album, Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head). The latest piece showcases his evolution as an artiste and activist.

Released on Friday, October 4, on all major streaming platforms, each song on the album is a testament to Seun’s unwavering commitment to using music as a tool for social change and empowerment. The album will not only entertain fans and listeners but also inspire and ignite a spirit of activism and liberation.

According to Seun, the album is a story for the working class and the poor people of the world. “It’s an album about class consciousness. It’s an album against the spirit of domination that manifests itself in politics and imperialism.

“Those who would commit these things are the crowned heads of the world. But due to the fact that they control the global narrative, they seek power and they also seek sympathy, which is contradictory.”

Executive produced by legendary musician Lenny Kravitz, and Fela Kuti’s original engineer, Sodi Marciszewer (artistic producer), Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head) delivers a sonic experience like no other.

“Many people know the saying, ‘heavy lies the head that wears the crown,’ (used) to buy sympathy from poor and working class people that they (the wealthy and politically powerful) also live hard lives.

“So, I reply with the idea that Heavier Yet (Lays the Crownless Head) because we do not owe them any sympathy. What we owe them is action. And that action can manifest itself in different forms: from a simple protest all the way to outright revolution,” he added.

With Kravitz and Sodi’s expertise combined with Seun Kuti’s unmatched talent, the album is poised to redefine the boundaries of contemporary music while staying true to the roots of afrobeat.

Featuring a track list of six electrifying songs, each track embodies the spirit of resistance, resilience, and revolution; talks about standing up against challenges and fighting for change.

The song T.O.P, talks about how society values money and success more than people. Seun said he wants to change this by promoting empathy and reconnecting with nature.

In another song, “Love and Revolution,” he expresses his love for his wife and believes that true love can inspire people to make the world a better place.

Seun expressed deep gratitude to Lenny Kravitz for his unwavering support and guidance throughout the creation of the project. He described Kravitz’s involvement as a demonstration of brotherly love and respect, highlighting his professionalism and unmatched dedication as the executive producer.
