Ever attended a wedding ceremony and you feel choked due to the brevity of space? You can’t move freely, there is hardly enough sitting space, let alone space for merriment, and you wonder if there was any need to leave the comfort of your home for a supposed place of merriment.

Well, creative event planners like Queen Ohamara, the founder and CEO of Qmara Vie Planners, have explained that having an absolute accessible space and location for your events is the first step to any successful occasion.

She said: “It is of utmost importance to have the right space for your events, be it weddings or other events. For weddings, Space capacity is a major deal, it is important to get a venue bigger than your wedding guests’ capacity in order for them to breathe, feel at ease and also accommodate your vendors, too.

“Location accessibility is key to a successful wedding ceremony. You have to consider your guests and make sure all can easily access the venue; you don’t want your guests turning back because it’s difficult to locate. Also, ensure your reception venue is not far from the church or mosque in order to make transportation easier for guests.”

Ohamara, however, noted that there are so many challenges that come with event planning. From crowd management due to the fact that hosts hardly know the number of guests they are expecting, and even if they do there is a 90 per cent chance that they might have more guests. “Last minute request, you see hosts make a request on the day of the occasion which sometimes throws us a bit off-balance as there isn’t enough time to deliver. Also bad weather is a big deal for outdoor events,” she said.

She added: While it is good to be trendy, I believe that weddings, due to their aesthetic peculiarity, should be timeless. A client wants to look at their wedding album and be extremely happy and that is always the core focus.”

She offered the following tips to a creative wedding reception décor:
. Do your research and really consider the look and feel that you’re hoping to achieve.
. Set yourself a styling budget and stick to it.
. From table linen to flowers, and other decorating accessories, creatively work out suiting colour scheme and then look to incorporate it into your styling. This will help to create a seamless look and finish.
. Transform your space with dramatic flowers like large floral centerpieces, floral archways, floral chandeliers, a large standout display, others.
. Distinguishingly transform your venue by strategically erecting up-lighters to frame a floral display or to highlight a feature.
. Finally, do what makes you happy, be it a simple design or elaborate centerpiece as tall as a tree, because at the end of the day, your wedding should be all about you and your partner
