Ten teams have been listed for the 2026 Nathaniel Idowu U-16 Football League, which kicks off on Saturday with all five-match Week 1 fixtures holding at the New Maracana Sports Complex in Tolu and the Nathaniel Idowu Football Pitch in Oregie, Ajegunle, Lagos.

The League Management Committee (LMC) has released the fixtures for the new season, which will bring together some of the leading grassroots academies alongside newcomers eager to make their mark in the developmental competition.

The Nathaniel Idowu U-16 Football League is a developmental initiative of the Nathaniel Idowu Foundation, founded by Yemi Idowu, and organised by Peakline Sports World under the leadership of its Director-General, McAnthony Anaelechukwu.

The league is aimed at scouting raw talents and providing young players with the platform, exposure and competitive experience needed to progress to state, national and international levels.

The opening fixture at the New Maracana Sports Complex will see Fortune FA, the defending champions of the 2026 Nathaniel Idowu U-14 League, take on St. Petersburg FA at 8:00 am. Fortune FA are expected to retain about 90 per cent of the squad that won the U-14 title, with the players now stepping up to the U-16 category, making them one of the teams to beat.

For St. Petersburg FA, the encounter represents a baptism of fire as they make their debut in a Peakline Sports World competition. The newcomers, however, will be hoping to upset the odds and make an immediate impression.

The second fixture at Tolu will pit Seraphic FA, the football team of Zion Church, against Bright Star FA, managed by Coach Ibojo, the club’s General Manager. Both teams have established themselves at grassroots level and will be eager to begin their campaign on a winning note.

Completing the morning programme at Tolu, Moore Wins Foundation FA will face SC Heritage at 10:30 am. Moore Wins Foundation FA finished sixth in the previous U-14 league and will be hoping to improve on that performance as they make the transition to the U-16 category. SC Heritage, meanwhile, will be making their debut in the Nathaniel Idowu Football League and will be looking to announce their arrival with a positive result.

At the Nathaniel Idowu Football Pitch in Oregie, Young Eleven FA and Ajegunle United SC will renew their rivalry at 1:00 pm.

The fixture comes with added intrigue, following Ajegunle United’s victory over Young Eleven on their way to securing a place in the Super 4 of the U-14 league. Young Eleven will now have the opportunity to settle the score at U-16 level.

The day’s final fixture will see another newcomer, Atico Football Academy, make their league debut against Divinely Blessed FA at 2:30 pm. Divinely Blessed finished eighth in the previous U-14 edition and will be looking to put that campaign behind them with an improved showing, while Atico will be keen to make a strong first impression.

Matches at the New Maracana Sports Complex in Tolu will kick off at 8:00 a.m., 9:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., while the two fixtures at the Nathaniel Idowu Football Pitch in Oregie are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

The nine-week league will run until October 31, 2026, with the opening weekend expected to provide an early indication of the teams best prepared to compete for the title.

With several players graduating from the U-14 category to U-16 football, the competition will also offer an important test of how successfully the academies have managed the transition while continuing to identify and nurture the next generation of football talent.
