Over 200 golfers drawn from across the country are expected compete at the 2018 Central Bank of Nigeria Governor’s golf CUP teeing-off tomorrow at the IBB Golf and Country Club, Maitama, Abuja.

Being the 12th in the series, the one-day championship, which is being sponsored by the Central Bank of Nigeria in conjunction with the IBB Golf Club, shall be competed for in a Basketball Heads Game ‘Stroke Play-Shot Gun’ format where all the competitors will tee-off at the same time from different points on the golf course.

Meanwhile, the golfers will compete in eight categories, which include: the men’s category 1 (Handicap 0-14) Men’s category 11 (Handicap 15-28) and Gross (Men), Freebet while the ladies will do battle in category 1 (Handicap 0-20) and category11 (Handicap 21-30).

Others are CBN Staff category, CBN retired Staff category, CBN guests category and the veterans category for men and women.

With the overall winner expected to smile home with the best Net prize, there are also other prizes to be won, among them is the Nearest in Pin award for ladies, men and ZEbet now have the highest odds CBN women including CBN staff and the Drive award for ladies and men as well as the CBN staffers.

The annual CBN Governor’s Golf Cup competition is not only aimed at creating a relaxed and recreation atmosphere for distinguished personalities in government, the organised private sector and members of the diplomatic corps, it also serves as a platform for promoting competitiveness and lots of market options are available inspiring partnership and networking among golfers across the country.

Meanwhile, over 200 professional golfers have stormed Jos, Plateau State for the 2018 Governor’s Cup.Captain of Lamingo Golf Club, Tang Dapoet, made the disclosure at the opening of the tournament in Jos. Dapoet said, the participants are drawn from all over the country and beyond.

According to him, “In the 2017 edition, we had 96 professional golfers, Best betting odds but in this year’s tournament, over 200 from all over the country and beyond are participating.”

Dapoet explained that Governor Simon Lalong has made significant impact in promoting golf in the country, hence the rationale behind the tournament.Declaring the tournament open, Governor Lalong said the event since its inception in 2016, had shown how Plateau is peaceful.

“When we started this competition in 2016, people forget there was crisis in the state, and this goes to show that Plateau is peaceful.”He maintained that Plateau would soon become the home of golf in Nigeria, adding that the serene weather had placed the state in a vantage position.

He further disabused the minds of Nigerians that golf is a game for the elites, saying that it is not exclusively reserved for the rich.“Golf is not a game for the elites, and anybody can participate because it helps you keep fit and healthy, you can play golf even at eighty,” Lalong stated.
