2nd Niger Delta Games: C’River athletes conclude final screening in Calabar

The Niger Delta Games brings together budding athletes from the nine states of the region to vie for honours and fame every year.

As the countdown to the 2nd Niger Delta Games continues, young athletes selected from all 18 Local Government Areas of Cross River State have completed their final screening in Calabar ahead of the Games, Edo 2026.

The screening camp, organised by the Cross River State Sports Commission in collaboration with the Niger Delta Games Liaison Committee, took place at the U.J. Esuene Stadium.

Before the screening exercise, which was held between January 21 -23, Chairman of the Sports Commission, Hon. Etta Lawrence, assured the athletes of a well-structured and welfare-friendly camp, noting that only the best performers will make the final team.

The athletes commended the NDDC and Dunamis Icon for supporting the initiative, describing it as a major boost to grassroots sports development. The camp is marked by high morale and optimism as Cross River State prepares a strong contingent for the Games.

This gathering is packed with exciting young talents, and many future stars are already shining. All eyes will be on these athletes as they showcase their skills, determination, and potential—proof that Cross River State’s future in sports is bright.
