• Winners get N25m, N10m as prize money
Energy solution company, AITEO Group yesterday acquired the naming rights for Nigeria’s oldest football competition, the Federation Cup. The competition will from this season be known as the AITEO Cup.
The new deal has also given participating clubs something to fight for, with the winners in the men’s and women’s categories going home with N25 million and N10 million respectively. The runner up in the men’s competition will pocket N10 million, while the runner up in the women’s event will go home with N5 million.
The NFF said it would break down the details of all the benefits of the extended agreement later. The AITEO group already has a five-year sponsorship deal with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), which entails that it takes care of the salaries of national team coaches.
Yesterday’s five-year deal, according to the NFF, is an extension/addendum to the company’s sponsorship agreement with the federation. It is also part of the rights AITEO has under the original agreement.
Explaining the significance of the deal yesterday in Lagos, NFF’s Second Vice President, Shehu Dikko, who is also the Chairman, Marketing, Sponsorship and Television Advisory Committee, said the rights will enable AITEO acquire “additional comm
assets from the federation that are available and not encumbered, on a mutually –negotiated basis.”
He added that the latest deal also entails that AITEO Group will foot the cost of organising the competition from the round of 64 to the men and women’s finals. “The group will also support the states’ football associations top organize the competition in their states, as well as footing the expenses and indemnities of match officials, support to participating clubs, media, branding/activation and prize money to winners,” he said.
