The Akwa Ibom State government has concluded arrangements to distribute 20,000 T-shirts to fans of the Super Eagles to shore up support for the team in this weekend’s Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier.

Chairman of the publicity sub committee of the Local Organizing Committee and Permanent Secretary in the state’s Ministry of Youths and Sports, Mr. Nse Edem, said yesterday that the state government was putting in place everything necessary to ensure victory for Nigeria.

He disclosed that the LOC, chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Etekamba Umoren, has other units including medical, security, accommodation and marketing, which would be coordinated by veteran sports journalist, Mr. Paul Bassey.

“As far as we are concerned, there will be no excuses for failure because we have learnt our lessons from the last AFCON qualifier played in Uyo and we have put every arrangement in place to ensure they don’t reoccur again,” he said.

The Permanent Secretary said ticket sales would commence today at designated places in the state and would also be made available to fans in other parts of the country.

He added that 200 stewards have also been mobilized to ensure the safety of fans, while the supporters clubs of local teams in the state would also be mobilized to compliment the Nigerian Football Supporters Club to cheer the Super Eagles to victory.
