Ambode redeems N20m promise to CHAN Eagles

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode yesterday approved the release of the sum of N20 million to the CHAN Eagles in fulfilment of his pledge to the team for their performance at the 2018 African Nations Championship hosted by Morocco.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode yesterday approved the release of the sum of N20 million to the CHAN Eagles in fulfilment of his pledge to the team for their performance at the 2018 African Nations Championship hosted by Morocco.
 
Ambode, who was in Morocco to watch the final of the CHAN between Nigeria and Morocco, was impressed by the Eagles qualification against all odds. Nigeria came second after losing 1-4 to the Atlas Lions in a match dominated by the host.
 
Disclosing this to the press yesterday, the Executive Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr. Kweku Tandoh said the official award of the cheque to the team would be made known soon.Tandoh commended Governor Ambode for this gesture, stating that this again showed his passion and commitment towards the growth of sports, not only in Lagos, but the country as a whole.
 
The governor had last year rewarded the Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) Football Club of Lagos for their 2018 Confederation African Football  (CAF) Champions League qualification with a donation of N50 million and also given the nod for the renovation of the Agege Stadium to meet CAF standards.Governor Ambode also supported the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in hosting the FIFA Executive Football Summit, which was held in February 2018 along with the first NFF Football Awards, in Lagos.
