Asegun High School, Ibadan, Fosla Academy qualify for Shell Cup semifinals
Asegun Community High School, Ibadan and Fosla Academy, Abuja, have qualified for the semifinals of the on-going All Nigeria Secondary Schools Football Championship, also known as NNPC/Shell Cup.
In the quarterfinals held across then country, Fosla Academy Secondary School, Abuja, came from behind to defeat Government Secondary School, Kwankwaso, Kano State 3-2 in the Kaduna Centre to qualify for the semifinals.
It was a keenly contested match as the boys from Kano took the lead on two occasions forcing the Fosla Academy Boys to come from behind to equalize and eventually scored the third and winning goal to ensure their safe entry into the semifinals.
The quarterfinal match in Ilorin between Government Senior Secondary School, Darazo, Bauchi and Government Secondary School, Gusau ended 5-3 in favour of the Bauchi boys, just as Excel Education Centre, Port Harcourt, defeated St. Mary’s High School, Ifitedunu, Anambra State, 1-0 in Benin to earn a smooth sail into the semifinals.
The last quarterfinal match played in Osogbo between Asegun Comprehensive High School, Ibadan and Pakoto High School, Ifo, Ogun State saw the former running home with a 2-1 victory.
Meanwhile, the semifinals will hold at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, on June 14, while the finale comes up two days after.
Part of the highlights of this year’s final is the usual coaching clinic that precedes the matches. It would be conducted for players and coaches by Youth Coaches from Feyenord FC, Rotterdam.
