Buffaloes, Seasiders, others gain points at Prudent Energy Handball Tourney

Benue Buffaloes, Lagos Seasiders, Confluence Stars, Safety Shooters, and Rima Queens, yesterday, won their matches in the men and women events of the Prudent Energy Handball Premier League Phase One.

The championship is ongoing at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja. Yesterday, which was Day Six of the tourney saw Buffaloes defeat Rima Strikers 40 to 32 to move up the ladder, while Lagos Seasiders overwhelmed Owena Kings, who are yet to record a win in the championship. Confluence Stars outshined the Police Machine 36 to 25; Safety Shooters narrowly beat De: Defenders 28 to 26, and Tojemarine Academy walked over Kada Stars in the men’s category.

However, in the women’s cadre, Rima Queens narrowly defeated Defender Babes 25 to 22, while Bendel Dynamos overpowered Benue Queens 36 to 21.

Meanwhile, the Technical Director of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), Bala Mohammed, has commended the teams that are taking part in the championship, just as he praised coaches at the tournament for giving a good account of themselves.

He also described as topnotch, officiating at the tourney, adding that the impartial officiating has allowed underdogs to create shocking results, thereby recording upsets. The inclusion of foreign referees from Morocco and Gabon through the efforts of the Confederation of African Handball (CAHB), he said, also helped to promote the image of this year’s edition of the league.

Today’s day seven fixtures will see Police Machine take on Lagos Seasiders, while Kada Stars will square up with Owena Kings, as Benue Baffaloes have a date against Safety Shooters.

Other match ups include D: Defenders taking on Niger United, just as Kano Pillars will clash with Confluence Stars and Rima Strikers will test their strength against Tojemarine Academy.
