The authorised dealer of Chery vehicles in the country, Carloha Nigeria, has joined the 11th edition of the Okpekpe International Road Race as the official automobile sponsor, reinforcing its commitment to sports development, healthy living and youth empowerment.
The internationally recognised 10km road race, scheduled to hold on May 30, 2026, in Edo State, remains one of Africa’s most prestigious athletics events. The race is a World Athletics Gold Label competition and a member of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races, attracting elite athletes and global attention.
As part of the partnership, Carloha will deploy two Chery HIMLA vehicles as official lead cars for professional and VIP runners during the competition. The vehicles will carry the race timing systems and lead athletes throughout the race.
Speaking on the sponsorship, General Manager, Marketing at Carloha Nigeria, Felix Mahan, said the initiative reflects the company’s broader commitment to supporting community-focused sporting activities and encouraging wellness culture in Nigeria.
According to him, endurance sports such as long-distance running align with the core values represented by the HIMLA model, including strength, resilience, durability and consistency under demanding conditions.
“The spirit of the Okpekpe Race perfectly aligns with the character of the HIMLA. Just as endurance athletes are built to go the distance despite difficult terrain and conditions, the HIMLA is engineered for strength, reliability and sustained performance,” Mahan said.
He added that supporting globally recognised sporting events contributes to Nigeria’s international image while encouraging more Nigerians to embrace athletics and healthy lifestyles.
Beyond the race, the company said it would also use the event to promote its CarlohaCare 6-6-7 aftersales package, which includes a six-year warranty, six years of free service and a seven-day repair promise for Chery vehicle owners.
Carloha also announced fan engagement activities at the event venue, where spectators and visitors will participate in games, interactive sessions and promotional activities, with opportunities to win branded gifts and discount vouchers on Chery vehicle models.
The company said the activation is aimed at celebrating sportsmanship, endurance and community engagement while creating memorable experiences for sports fans, families and automobile enthusiasts attending the race.
