CBN Junior Tennis: Yahaya, Atilola qualify for U-16 semifinals

Top seeds in the boys and girls’ U-16 category, Issah Yahaya and Mofi Atilola, shot their way through to the semifinals of the competition, where they were given wild cards to also compete in the higher age group with a view to fast-tracking their progress.

Yahaya, a highly talented, tireless future great from the Mainland Tennis Club, venue of the group stages, made the most of the opportunity by beating fourth seed, Wisdom Effiong from the Uyo-based GEUF Academy in the decisive group match.

Yahaya is drawn to meet second seed, Seyi Ogunsakin, while the second semifinal will have number one seed, Gbolahan Olawale from Ondo State take on Onyekachi Ogumjiofor from Oyo State.

Atilola also had a fairy tale run in the girls’ U-16 category after breezing through the U-14 preliminaries.

The precocious tennis talent outplayed Bisola Ogunkolade from Ondo in the decisive group match to position for a shot at two finals.

She will meet top seed Gloria Samuel from Ekiti while Goodness Aina, also from Ekiti will face Favour James of the GEUF Academy, Uyo in the other semifinals.

There will be semifinal matches in the Boys and Girls 12a and 14s also at the same venue.

The grand finale will, however, take place at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club on Saturday starting 12 noon.
