Chelsea, Al Ahli at crossroads as Osimhen’s transfer saga ends today
How will the Victor Osimhen transfer saga end? This will be known later tonight when the European transfer closes around midnight. However, the two teams interested in luring the Nigerian striker to their clubs are not relenting in pursuing the Napoli man.
Reports, yesterday, said that Chelsea have offered Osimhen a weekly salary of €350,000, which is €150,000 short of what the former Golden Eaglet is demanding. On the other hand, Saudi’s Al Ahli have reportedly tendered a yearly salary worth €30 million (which is €625,000 per week) on a four-year deal with a release clause.
According to Italy’s Gazzetta de la sport, Chelsea have put together a proposal that matches the €70 million bid that Napoli has received from Al Ahli. But the report added that Osimhen’s representatives have rejected Chelsea’s salary offer, which means that the Saudi side are now very much in the running for the player’s signature again.
The Osimhen camp is waiting for Chelsea to up their offer as the Super Eagles star is more disposed to remaining in Europe than going to Saudi Arabia at this stage in his career.
So, it is now up to Chelsea to up their offer to the player, or for Osimhen to accept what the Premier League side is offering, otherwise the forward “will listen to Al Ahli’s offer” amid Osimhen’s frustrations with how the process is playing out with his European suitors, following Paris Saint-Germain’s failed pursuit earlier in the summer.
Also reporting on the Osimhen saga, Fabrizio Romano said Osimhen is ready to wait for Chelsea’s improved offer until the last moment before deciding if to go with Al Ahli.
He said: “It’s completely on Chelsea for Osimhen, forget about everything, it’s all about the salary and Chelsea, they are not giving up and are trying
“Compared to before, Chelsea will not be signing Osimhen on loan, they would be buying him on some sort of permanent deal. Osimhen is waiting; he will have to say soon, Yes, I’m coming to you Chelsea this salary is good, or No, sorry we can’t make the deal happen.
“Today will be important for Chelsea and Osimhen, they need to make progress if they want it to happen.” The European transfer window closes by midnight, but Saudi clubs can buy and register players until September 20.
