College of Commerce, seven others hit quarterfinals

The 2021 edition of the Delta State Secondary School Football Competition sponsored by Zenith Bank enters crucial stage with eight teams qualifying for the quarterfinals slots of the competition.

Defending champion, College of Commerce, from Warri South Council, is one of the eight schools vying for a semi final place. Igumbor Otiku Secondary School from Ika South is also in the quarterfinals alongside Ika North East representatives, Owa Model School and Umukwata Secondary School from Ukwuani LG.

Other quarterfinalists are Ashaka Mixed Secondary School from Ndokwa East LG, Ogbe Ijoh Secondary School from Warri South West LG, Ovwor Mixed Secondary School from Ughelli South LG and Alaka Grammar School, Ozoro from Isoko North LG.

According to the organisers, Hideaplus Nigeria Limited, the quarterfinal games will be decided tomorrow simultaneously in four centres.

Similarly, in the Headmasters’ Cup football competition for primary schools also sponsored for the first time by Zenith Bank, finalists have emerged.

Valley Stream British School, Sapele, defeated Destiny Primary School, Ughelli North 1-0 to qualify for the final of the competition. They will play against Ogbe Primary School Effurun, which defeated Royal Foundation Primary School, Ogwashi Uku, 3-0.

The Headmasters’ Cup final holds on Thursday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, with the third place match between Destiny Primary School and Royal Foundation serving as curtain raiser.

The sponsors, Zenith Bank, has reinstated its commitment to developmental youth football.

Group Managing Director of the bank, Ebenezer Onyeagwu, said: “We want to produce players that will be future national team stars and the starting point is to give them the enabling environment to show their talents. That is what we are doing in Delta State.”
