The winners of this year’s Season 7 Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) Principals Cup in the boys’ category will be decided between Dairy Farm Senior Grammar School, Surulere and Ejigbo Senior Secondary School, Ejigbo, while in the girls’ group, CMS Girls Senior Secondary School, Bariga will battle Ikotun Senior High School.

Dairy Farm defeated Jubilee Model Senior Grammar School, Surulere 3-2 on Wednesday in an exciting encounter that was decided on penalties, after 1-1 stalemate at Onikan Stadium.

Earlier on Tuesday, Ejigbo School humbled Keme Balogun Senior Grammar School, Ikorodu 4-2 also on penalties. The Ejigbo boys, who were 0-2 down with less than 10 minutes, fought back, scoring two goals in quick succession to make it 2-2, then take the match into penalty shootouts.

Also in the girls’ group, CMS Girls on Tuesday beat Isale Eko Grammar School, Lagos Island 1-0, at the same venue, while Sanya Senior Grammar School Surulere lost 1-2 to Ikotun Girls on Wednesday to book their place in the final.

Speaking on his school’s victory, captain of Ejigbo School, Sulaimon Lateef, said: “At a time when we were two goals down with less than 10 minutes, I had already given up hope. But by the time we scored the first goal, then the equaliser, I had a feeling God wants us to win because with Him all things are possible. I want to really thank God for the victory,” he said.

The finals will be played on a yet to be announced date.

The GTBank-Lagos Principals Cup is a yearly football competition organised to provide a platform for identifying; nurturing, grooming young and talented players as well as helping students actualise their dreams of becoming professional footballers.
