The Dambe Warriors League (DWL), Nigeria’s leading promoter of the ancient martial art of Dambe, on Friday, said that it is set to host SuperFight 03 on September 15th, 2024, at Abuja’s Velodrome.

The league, dedicated to celebrating Nigeria’s cultural heritage through Dambe, will feature ten exciting bouts, including three championship matches and six promotional fights.

Co-founder of Dambe Warriors, Anthony Okeleke, stated this at the pre-press briefing in Abuja, he said that the event promises to be electrifying, showcasing top Dambe talent.

He noted that the fighters are on salaries, earning more than some local Premier League football players.

He said: “Dambe Warriors has become the most competitive league in the country right now, drawing and fastest growing sports, not just in Nigeria, but on the continent at large.

“We have one of the largest YouTube channels on the continent in Africa at large as well. We’ve been doing magnificent numbers. We’ve seen ourselves evolving to, you know, showcasing the sport globally with partnerships of broadcasts.”

The championship lineup includes a Lightweight bout where Season 02 champion Yar Mage will face rookie Nassarawa. Mage, with a 4-1 record, and Nassarawa, with a 3-2 record, both delivered strong performances during the regular season.

Other fighters set to compete are Aljanin Nassarawa, Yar Mage, Dogon Messi, Shabban, Garkuwan Yansanda, Ali Kanin Bello, Dogon Shegiyar Mota, Denis Chemysh, Dan Tuka Yellow, and Mateusz.

Another, Co-founder of Dambe Warriors, China Anyina, emphasized the tournament’s significance, saying, “Our vision is expansive. We are uniting our fighters and the country around this sport, aiming to connect the nation and promote it on a larger scale.”

Roshan Nanayakkara, Special Adviser to the Minister of Culture, Hannatu Musawa, remarked, “Nigeria is a leader in cultural heritage, with a unique and diverse cultural legacy.

“By partnering with Dambe Warriors Entertainment Company Limited and supporting SuperFight 03, we aim to showcase Nigeria’s cultural heritage through this sport, including its music and dance elements. We are proud to use this platform to highlight our rich heritage and take opportunities like this to the forefront.”
