Eagles’ defence should be 100 per cent alert, says Sofoluwe
Sofuluwe submitted that the Eagles almost lost to Cameroon in the round of 16 game due to the complacency of the defenders, who were sometimes careless with the ball.
He noted that the game against South Africa would be tough, stressing that the Super Eagles should not give their opponents any room to make their intelligent passes as they did against hosts, Egypt.
Sofuluwe tasked the Eagles to see the quarterfinal match as another opportunity to prove that they were on track to win the AFCON.
He commended the team for striving hard to remain in contention for the trophy after the defeat by Madagascar.
“Some of the mistakes in the Cameroon game might not be corrected based on the formation of South Africa. They play as a unit and it would be tough for the Eagles to curtail them.
“The Eagles should not allow them to make dangerous passes around the 18-yard box. They need to be 100 percent focused to beat South Africa.
“I believe Nigerian players must have watched their game against Egypt and picked out the right approach to deploy against them. The match would not be easy for the Eagles, but I am sure with the right tactics the Eagles will succeed,” he said.
