Edo set to rebrand Queens, launch new jersey for Insurance FC


The Edo State government tomorrow unveils and rebrand the state-owned Nigeria Women Premier League club, Edo Queens of Benin City with a view to making the team more competitive.

The Edo State Deputy Chief of Staff, Kingsley Ehigiamusor said in a statement yesterday that the state government had concluded the plan to rebrand the Edo Queens, adding that the club have been upgraded and ready to be presented to the public.

Ehigiamusor also said although the women’s club had been playing in the top flight Women Premier League, tomorrow’s unveiling would be the first time they would be officially presented to the people of Edo State as a club under the supervision of the state government and one of the brands under the leadership of the Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu.

The Deputy Chief of Staff also stated that the occasion, which has been scheduled for the Banquet Hall of the Edo State Government House, Benin City, at 2.00 p.m. tomorrow, would also witness the launching of the new jersey for the state-owned professional football club, Bendel Insurance FC of Benin.

Edo State is gradually regaining its pride of place as the bedrock of Nigerian sports, as the state is set to among other things, host the next edition of the National Sports Festival, Edo 2020.

Already, the Old Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, has been rebuilt into an Olympic stadium ahead of the 2020 National Sports Festival.
