Some of the best young table tennis players from across Africa have gathered in Accra, Ghana, to vie for honours in the 2026 ITTF Africa Youth Championships, which served off yesterday.
The talk of the championship is the draw, which pitted the continent’s biggest teams, Nigeria and Egypt, in the same group at the cadet championships.
There are several exciting group-stage matchups confirmed, with the pick being the U-19 girls’ contests that will see Egypt and Nigeria vying to make the second round.
In the boys’ U-19 category, hosts Ghana will face Egypt and Côte d’Ivoire for a place in the second round.
The team events kicked off the championships yesterday with three rounds of group-stage action before the knockout stage begins.
Apart from competitions in the U-19 boys and girls’ categories, there are contests in the U-15 boys and girls’ categories at the championships.
