Kaduna-based El-Amin reaffirmed their supremacy in the Nigerian polo scene over the weekend when they won the 104 edition of the famed FirstBank-sponsored Georgian Cup. The victory was the 16th of such wins by the high-flying polo team.
To emerge winner in a keenly contested 6-chukker round, El-Amin overpowered their rival, Kaduna Makarfi by a whopping 12-goals to 4-goals. Happy at the victory, patron of the team, Mohammed Babangida, attributed their triumph to hard work
“Sixteen wins of the Georgian Cup is a record. In the history of Nigerian Polo, it has never been done. The truth is that El-Amin players have a wonderful chemistry because we’ve been together for a long time and we understand ourselves very well,” Babangida said.
“We have also done so much investment in the physical wellbeing of players and their horses as well,” he added. Also speaking at the event, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of FirstBank, Olusegun Alebiosu, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to sponsorship of the Georgian Cup.
“We will continue to sponsor the Georgian and remain committed to it in the same way we are committed to all other sports sponsorship that we are engaged in, especially sporting initiative that engages our youths,” he said.
