Ikoyi Club 1938

More than 15 countries featured at the maiden edition of Diplomacy Stableford, a golf tournament for diplomats held yesterday at the Ikoyi Club 1938, Lagos.

Organised by Vuvuzela Destination Marketing & Exhibition Diplomacy, the one-day event is expected to become a yearly recreational convergence of diplomats in Nigeria, who will be competing for honours.

Sponsored by Airfrance KLM, Rwandair, Kenya Airways, The Lansdown Resort Aburi and Legend Lagos Airport (a Curio collection by Hilton), 15 different nationalities battled to score stableford points to the glory of their respective nations and ultimately to global harmony.

Before the event teed off yesterday, Consul-Generals from 10 different countries had confirmed attendance in the ceremonial tee off by 8.00 a.m.

CEO Vuvuzela Destination Marketing & Exhibition, Deji Ajomale-McWord, said: “Diplomacy is what keeps our world sane. Had there been no subject matter known as diplomacy, humanity would have been at constant loggerheads, without middle grounds for goodly compromises to perch. Through diplomatic missions of one country in another, different races of humans have blended and enjoyed cohabitation through migration, cultural cum commerce exchanges. This is why we believe that diplomacy and diplomats, in their own right, make the world go round.”

On the idea behind the gold tournament, he explained, “The Diplomacy Stableford, a golf tournament and a recreational convergence for diplomats, expatriates and other golfers. It serves as a platform for exchange among diverse nationalities of the world and the aim is to foster harmony vis-a-vis globalisation.

“It is the celebration of migration, tourism, travel, cultural cum commerce exchange and other virtuous subjects tied around consular services, that keep humanity in touch.”

He disclosed that the winners of the tournament would spend two nights at the presidential suite of Legend Hotel Lagos Airport, get Curio Collection by Hilton, a business class ticket to any destination in Europe by Air France, a business class ticket to Cape Town by Rwandair, flight to any of the destinations from Kenya Airways.
