F8 Ballers win Nathaniel Ogedegbe football tourney in Lagos

The second edition of National Ogedegbe U10/12 football tournament has ended in Lagos with F8 Ballers Football Academy of Surulere beating Clever Star FC of Ajegunle to win the title.

The second edition of National Ogedegbe U10/12 football tournament has ended in Lagos with F8 Ballers Football Academy of Surulere beating Clever Star FC of Ajegunle to win the title.

the final decided at the Sam Sonibare Mini-Stadium, Surulere, the winners, who resisted everything thrown at them by their Clever Star counterparts, were on another level as they entertained the crowd that had some ex-internationals, including Edema Fuludu, Wasiu Ipaye and former chairman of the Lagos State Football Association, Waidi Akanni, in attendance.

The highly entertaining match witnessed a scoreless first half, despite numerous attempts at goal by the eventual winners, F8 Ballers. Two goals in the second half separated the two teams as the boys from Surulere won the tournament to the delight of the spectators.

Earlier, 12 Angels Football Academy defeated Amata FC 5-4 to win the third place match, after a dramatic penalty shootout. Scores at full time stood at 1-1.

Sponsor and programme initiator, U.S.-based Nathaniel Ogedegbe, a product of St. Finbarr’s College, who played for both the Flying Eagles and Green Eagles, said he was elated at the quality of play he witnessed, adding that the purpose for which the tournament was set had been achieved.

“My expectations were blown away because there is so much improvement and the competition has been intense. I love the goals, the drama and the intensity. I love the maturity and the job being done by the coaches.”
