Father O’Connel, GSS Gboko qualify for national finals
Nestle Milo Secondary Schools Basketball Championship
Father O’Connel Science College, Minna and Government Secondary School Gboko have won the tickets to join the other schools from across the country in the national finals of the 2018 Nestle Milo Secondary Schools Basketball Championship.
Playing in the Emirates Conference at the Indoor Sports Hall of Ilorin Stadium, Father O’Connel Science College beat Christ Comprehensive College, Kaduna 68 to 35 to win the zone’s trophy and the ticket for the national finals billed for Lagos next week.
Also playing at the Emirates Conference, defending champion, Government Secondary School, Gboko, beat Government Girls Secondary School, Minna to the ticket for the national finals, where it will test its might against the best schools from the other zones of the country.
The other schools that have already qualified for the national finals are Belary School, Yenagoa, and St. Jude’s Girls Secondary School, Amarata, both in Bayelsa State; Government Secondary School, Karu, FCT Abuja and Gen. According to the organisers of the competition, Nigerian School Sports Federation (NSSF), six other schools are expected to emerge at the end of the Conference playoffs and draws for the best losers.
The 2018 MILO Basketball Championship, which is the 20th edition of the competition, commenced with the state preliminary games, which featured about 9, 000 schools from across the 36 states and FCT Abuja. 74 schools, comprising both boys and girls teams, emerged from the 9,000 for the regional conferences, which took place in Benin, Abuja and Ilorin. The final conference is on-going in Ibadan.
