Ikorodu City and Shooting Stars Sports Club settled for a point each in the South West Derby at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Sunday afternoon on matchday 10 of the Nigeria Premier Football League.
The hosts came back from two goals down to rescue a point to keep their home record untainted after five matches.
The 10,000-capacity venue had a sizeable number of fans, including a section of the away supporters, who got value for their money as the derby ended with four goals.
Shooting Stars were seeking their first win on the road after losing six in a row and also looking to consolidate their win over Ranchers Bees after a difficult past few weeks.
The Oluyole Warriors got off to a brilliant start as they took a two-goal lead within 36 minutes. Taofeek Otaniyi scored the opener in the third minute before Desmond Ojietefian doubled the lead in the 36th minute.
Taofeek Otaniyi pounced on a failed clearance in the box, while Desmond scored with a close-range header to put the Warriors in control a few minutes before the break.
However, the Oga Boys started the comeback a few minutes before halftime. Donald Obiajulu received a pass in the box off a blistering counterattack from the right flank before burying a low drive into the bottom corner.
Obiajulu rescued a point for the hosts in the 83rd minute to send the home fans into a frenzy.
The result means both sides remain in the bottom half of the table. Ikorodu City are 11th with 13 points, while 3SC have 12 from 10 matches.
Meanwhile, Rivers United missed the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table as the Pride of Rivers lost to Bendel Insurance. Freeman Wuchirwe and Jonathan Mairiga scored to condemn Finidi George’s men to their first loss on the road this season.
Enyimba‘s poor run on the road witnessed another episode as the Aba Elephants lost to Nasarawa United in Lafia. The nine-time champions remain in the drop zone, eight points after 10 matches.
Inter Lagos continue to struggle, and the newcomers are one of the potential candidates to return to the Nigeria National League. Kun Khalifa handed Olusanjo Olutayo’s men their seventh loss of the season. The interim reign of the manager has seen the team lose back-to-back matches.
Niger Tornadoes secured the only away win of the day as they beat Abia Warriors, while Warri Wolves and Kano Pillars settled for a stalemate. Barau and Kwara United also settled for a draw as it ended 1-1.
Rivers United remain on top of the NPFL table with 17 points after 10 matches but are at risk of relinquishing their position as they are tied on points with Enugu Rangers, who have two outstanding matches.
