COPA Lagos shifted for CAF Beach Soccer
Organisers of the globally acclaimed Beach Soccer Event, ‘COPA Lagos’ says the 2018 edition of the annual beach soccer tournament would not hold as anticipated.
According to Managing Director of Kinetic Sports, Samson Adamu, the decision not to host the tournament this year was as a result of the close proximity between the proposed date for this year’s edition and the kick-off of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Beach Soccer African Cup of Nations taking place in Egypt from December 8-14.
Adamu spoke while commenting on the recent announcement by Beach Soccer World Wide, listing Copa Lagos amongst the top three best beach soccer events globally, alongside the Euro Beach Soccer League (Nazare, Portugal) who won the award and Euro beach Soccer League Super Final (Alghero, Italy).
The Director, who was full of gratitude and pride for the accomplishment, said the Nigerian National team (the Sand Eagles) was an active participant at the CAF Beach Soccer event, and so, is the international beach soccer community event in Egypt serves as the African qualifiers to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
Adamu said over the last seven years, COPA Lagos had grown from strength to strength, remaining a formidable sporting event, adding that their goal remains placing Nigeria on the map for global tourism using beach culture and lifestyle
