Luba FC’s maiden outing in the 2025 NLO Division Two League at the Maracana Stadium ended in a narrow 3–2 defeat to Oba’s Academy, but the performance offered clear signs of a team with structure, attacking intent, and long-term potential.

In a pulsating season opener played on August 18, the young Luba side approached the contest with confidence and tactical discipline, matching their more established opponents stride for stride in an entertaining five-goal encounter.

Luba FC drew first blood in the 25th minute, calmly converting from the penalty spot after sustained attacking pressure forced the breakthrough. The goal reflected the team’s proactive approach, as they pressed high and looked comfortable in possession, unsettling Oba’s Academy in the early exchanges.

Although Oba’s Academy responded with an equaliser in the 39th minute, Luba FC showed commendable resilience to restore their lead before halftime. Their second goal capped a dominant first-half display, with the team heading into the break 2–1 ahead and firmly in control of proceedings.

However, the momentum shifted after the restart.

Oba’s Academy capitalised on key moments in the second half, drawing level once again from the penalty spot before completing the comeback with a late winner. The decisive goal exposed lapses in defensive concentration, ultimately denying Luba FC what would have been a statement opening victory.

Despite the defeat, Luba FC emerged from the encounter with considerable credit. Their attacking cohesion, composure under pressure, and ability to respond to setbacks highlighted a side capable of competing strongly within the division.
