Nigeria’s Super Eagles will be playing its first official game in Lagos, the country’s commercial capital, for the first time in 20 years on Tuesday.

The city used to be the default home ground of the former African champions.

The Super Eagles will play against Lesoth in the final game of the African Cup of Nations qualifiers at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, just opposite the National Stadium where the team played many of its home games in the past.

“I am excited as for the first time in 20 years, we witness the homecoming of our dear Super Eagles as they play their AFCON qualifier at our state soccer homeg round, the Teslim Balogun Stadium,” Lagos Satte governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said on Tuesday.

“We have supported the Super Eagles in their journey to this AFCON and I congratulate them on qualifying.”

The Eagles have already qualified for the competition before its last game away to the Republic of Benin on Saturday.

The game ended 0-1 in favor of the Nigerians.

Everton winger Alex Iwobi is expected to feature in the game after being ruled out of the Benin by a faulty COVID-19 test that flagged him as being positive for the virus.

Iwobi was cleared in Lagos and the Confederation of African Football cleared him on Tuesday morning to play against Lesotho in Lagos.

“The good news is that Alex Iwobi has been cleared to play in today’s game against Lesotho and can now help the team finish the qualifiers on a high. His medical clearance has been recieved from
@CAF_Online & it means he is cleared to play,” the Nigeria Football Federation boss Amaju Pinnick said on Twitter.

The Super Eagles sit atop Group L with 11 eleven points from five games. Lesotho, with three points, will be hoping to earn a shock victory against the three-time AFCON champions.
