The race is on and the prize is huge. It is the 2018 Port Harcourt Classics, which offers the best players $25,000 for three days work.

And so players from Germany, Cameroun, Gabon, Ghana, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Senegal have arrived in the country to challenge the titleholder, Nigeria’s Kingsley Oparaku for his crown this weekend.

The cream of Nigerian players is also on ground for a piece of the pie from the competition, which is one of the events in the West Africa Golf Tour (WAGT) series.

Slated for the Port Harcourt Golf Club from April 27 to 29, Oparaku says he is not ready to relinquish his title yet. “I have worked hard for this event and I hope to retain my title.”

The winner’s prize is $4,000, which is good enough to spark fierce rivalry among the players.

However, the Port Harcourt Classic will feature a $1,000 hole-in-one prize for professionals.

The amateur tournament tomorrow will also feature a hole-in-one prize of West Africa Golf Tour merchandise for a value of $500.

This is the first of the two events that the WAG Tour will stage in Port Harcourt during the 2018 season.
