Debutants in the Nigerian basketball scene, Gidi Giants yesterday won their first game of the on-going Temple Jam Basketball Championship, beating Oluyole Warriors of Oyo State 70-55 in the inaugural competition, which dunked off at the indoor hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos yesterday.

The championship, which is part of the organisers’ strategy to discover young talents from the grassroots and nurture them to stardom, kept basketball lovers in the hall on the edge of their seats during the opening games.

In other matches yesterday, Niger Potters beat Delta Force 85-69, while Comets of Ondo State lost to Anambra Flames 62-34. The match between Gombe Bulls and Tema of Ghana was still going on at press time.
