The Court of Appeal, Jos Division on Tuesday October 9, 2016 directed parties to file their respective briefs in respect of the motion filed by the League Management Company (LMC) seeking orders of the Appeal Court to set aside the order of committal to prison and other steps taken by Justice I.I Kunda of a Jos High Court after the LMC had filed the appeal in the matter between one Mustapha Abubakar, a supporter of Giwa FC and the LMC.

The court considered that it is better to address the very weighty issues in the motion in the parties’ respective briefs.

On the application of LMC’s counsel, the Court of Appeal then extracted a formal undertaken from Giwa FC’s counsel in open court and, on the record, that his clients will not do anything to harass or interfere with the person of LMC Chairman, Shehu Dikko,  and its Chief Operating Officer, Salihu Abubakar and, that they will maintain the status quo pending the hearing of the matter by the Court of Appeal.

It will be recalled that Justice Kunda had earlier made an order of committal to prison for contempt against the LMC Chairman and Chief Operating Officer for failing to comply with his ex parte order that Giwa FC be reinstated to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), three months after the Club had been expelled from the league under the league rules.

LMC has maintained consistently that it could not comply with the order of the lower court because it had appealed against it and, that the order of committal was made by the Judge despite and with full knowledge of the pendency of the two appeals filed by LMC against its orders.

The appeals were adjourned to January 18, 2017 for hearing.
