Glisten International Academy’s men team are champions of the Abuja Private Secondary School Basketball Classic championship for the third time following their 14 to 7 defeat of Christ the King College (CKC), Abuja, in the final match of the 2016 edition at the weekend.

The one-sided game decided at the outdoor basketball court of the Abuja National Stadium saw Glisten, inspired by national U-17 basketball team player, John-Paul Opai, winning the first half 10 to 5 before netting additional four points in the second half to put the game beyond CKC boys.

In the third place game, American International School, Abuja, beat Nigerian/Turkish International College 32 to 18 to win the bronze medal.

In the girls’ category, Regina Pacis College, Garki defeated Kapital Science Academy Kuje, 11 to 8 points in the final match to emerge winners, while Glisten Academy women’s team narrowly edged Pace Setters Academy 15 to 13 to points to finish third.

Speaking after his team’s victory, Glisten International Academy’s Coach, Abubakar Abdullahi, said his side was able to come tops because his boys defended well, saying the team made effective use of the skills of their star player, John-Paul Opai to actualise their game plans.
