Gold medals at World Championships, Olympic Games our next target, says Igali
Nigerian Wrestling Federation (NWF) President, Daniel Igali, yesterday, said the federation would strive to surpass its modest achievements since he took over the leadership of the Federation by winning gold medals at the World Championships and Olympic Games.
Igali, who was recently re-elected as NWF president for a third term in office, has led the NWF to win gold medals at African and Commonwealth Games levels but has not achieved that at the world and Olympics stages.
Igali told The Guardian yesterday that the federation would intensify efforts to achieve the goals it set 10 years ago before the end of his new four-year tenure as NWF president.
“We will improve on our laid down programme. This is a plan that has been in place for over 10 years now and it has been able to get us medals at the African Championships, African Games, Commonwealth Games, World Championships and at the Olympics.
“What we are yet to achieve in the programme is winning goal medals at the World Championships and at the Olympics. Those are the two things left and we hope that in the next three years, we will be able to provide that for ourselves before our term comes to an end,” he said.
