Ground Training Command dominate Nigeria Air Force Championship

Ground Training Command, Enugu at the weekend won the third Nigeria Air Force (NAF) inter-command combat sports competition held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State with six gold and three bronze medals.

The four-day event, tagged ‘Uyo 2018’, saw Logistic Command Lagos taking the second position with five gold, six silver and nine bronze medals, while Tactical Air Command, Makurdi placed third with five gold, six silver and three bronze medals.

Presenting awards to winners, Governor Udom Emmanuel, who was the special guest of honour, thanked the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sadiq Abubakar, for finding Akwa Ibom fit for the sports meet, saying such events would help officers and men of the Nigeria Air Force to be mentally and physically alert at all time.

The governor also expressed his gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari, noting that without his love and large heart at providing resources for training and retraining of the country’s armed forces, their performances in handling the security challenges the country was passing through would have not been possible.

He said the President Buhari was playing the fatherly role to all the 36 governors irrespective of political affiliations.

“Above all, I thank the Commander in Chief, President Muhammadu Buhari, because if he did not provide the resources the Nigerian Air Force and other armed forces would not be where they are today.
